ADJECTIVE CLAUSE
· Pengertian
Clausa adalah kumpulan kata yang
mengandung subject dan verb. Independent clausa adalah kalimat sempurna yang
mengandung inti subject dan verb. Dependent clausa adalah kalimat yang tidak
sempurna yang harus deihubungkan dengan independent clause.

Adjective clause is anak
kalimat yang berfungsi sebagai adjective yang menjelaskan noun. Macam-macamnya:
1. RPS (Relative Pronoun as Subject)
Conjunction
:
a. Who : Subject Orang
b. Which : Noun Benda
c. That : Untuk Subj orang
atau Benda
Example :
I thanked the woman
She helped me
à I thanked the woman who helped
me.

It is one the table
à The book which is
on the table is mine

2. RPO (relative Pronoun as Object)
Conjunction :
a. Whom : Object orang
b. Which : Object benda.
c. That : Untuk Objek
orang atau benda
Example :
The woman is my mom
I helped her
à The woman whom I helped is
my mom.

3. RPOP (Relative Pronoun as Object
of Preposition)
Conjunction
:
a. Whom : Object orang
b. Which : Object Benda
c. That : Untuk
Objek orang atau benda
Example:

always talk about is actress.

Conjunction :

Kepemilikan orang

Example :

as Adverb)
Relative
as Adverb is divided to be four kinds :
RA of Place
Conjunction :
a. where
b. in which
c. which...in.
Example : I study in school where my brother

1. RQ (Relative of Quantity)
An adjective clause may contain
an expression of quantity with of : some of, many of, most of, both of, etc.
Conj : whom, which, whose.
Example :
I have two sisters
Both of them are going to Korea
à I have two sisters, both of whom are
going to Korea

Ø Changing adjective clause to be adjective phrase.
We can change adjective clause to
be adjective phrase by reducing.
There are two kinds of reducing.
- If the sentence has ‘to be’
auxiliary, lose the conjunction and to be auxiliary.
Example :
Ø The woman who was
standing in front of me is my sister

- If the sentence has verb
ordinary, lose the conjunction and change verb to be present participle.
Ø The woman who helped me
last night is my friend

Adjective
clause is a dependent clause that modifies a noun and it comes after the noun.
The conjunction is who, which,
whom, that, where, why, how, when, etc.
Adjective clause has some kinds,
they are :
• RPS (Relative Pronoun as
Subject), conj : who, which, that
• RPO (Relative Pronoun as Object),
conj : whom, which, that
• RPOP (Relative Pronoun as Object
of Preposition), conj : whom, which, that
• RPP (Relative Pronoun as
Possesive), conj : whose, of which
• RA (Relative
as Adverb), conj : where, when, why, how.
• RQ (Relative of Quantity),
conj : which, whom, whose.
Every kind of adjective clause
has its conjunction and that conjunction will be followed by
sentence.
